DESHI STAR Evaluation

1)      There are many ways in which our video uses generic conventions such as using themes and creating the right setting. The genre of our film is comedy, we decided to do a comedy movie as it appeals to a wide target audience and everyone’s always up for a comedy. The film is called deshi star. Deshi star is a movie that is based on people achieving their dreams by going through process and struggling to chase that dream they go through a journey packed with hardship, failures and success. Our film opening subverted the generic conventions of the comedy genre by being a very obvious and clear; we did this technique as that was what our film was about. Our group used props, setting, camerawork and dialogue to show the comedy through the dialogue.  The props that we used were back drops, name cards, desk and chair to create a atmosphere that represents setting.  The camerawork that we used was long shot and medium shot and also used close up shot to show the characters faces so that the audience gets an idea of what they are doing. The dialogues which we came up with was “that is a no form me” and also “I wish I could be in Deshi Star”. We watched a couples of movies such as dream girls, burlesque and high school musical, to help us understand the genre of the movie and this helped us to come up with the basic idea of the movie.
2)      Our film represents social groups such as working class youth.  We decided to do this as it is very common in the real world for working class people to end up with a office job or some even without a job. We thought we would base our film around real life so our audience can connect with the film.  We feel it was a positive representation because it shows the culture of Bangladesh, where people tend to not get far in life. This would motivate them to achieve their dreams as it is possible but people give up on hope. I think this would affect the viewers in a good way by showing them a heartfelt story and encouraging them to not give up.
3)      Our movie would be marketed through posters and TV adverts to reign the consumers. We would screen it on small independent cinemas as although the movie is a comedy it also appeals to a particular part of the nation because it is based on Asian culture.
4)      The target audience for our movie would be both male and female. This movie’s age group is 16+ so then this could inspire them to achieve their dreams as they might like to sing and want to become a singer.
5)       In our movie we have different characters, some are funny and like to have a more friendly approach to people and some are more serious and they like to get to the point straight. To represent out movie genre we had actor sing a funny song to show what kind of movie this is going to be. The film story line is about someone wanting to be a singer and have a bright future.
6)      The technologies that we used during the making of our film was laptops, with in the laptop we got to use a lot of transitions and effects that would help improve our movie and make it look good. We had to upload the video to the laptop and edit it on imovie. During the process of the movie making we also got to make blog that has given us many options on what we can do and also learned how to use laptops to create movie and also blog. In the blog we got to upload movies from other sites and you tube. We got to create posts and edit the post and also we can embed the videos from other site which would help our movie making process.
7)      When we did ort preliminary task we did not speak louder and clear for people to hear us properly where as on the main film we spoke clearly and loudly so that the audiences can hear and understand what we’re talking about. The lighting was not good in our preliminary task where as on the main video we make sure that the lighting was good so that people can see properly. On the main video we broke the 180 degree rule because we were thinking too much about the other things where as on the preliminary we did not have to think too much about anything so we remembered about the 180 degree rule so therefore we used the rule on the preliminary task but not the main film.

these are the video diary's we made while we were doing the filming, in the first clip of the video diary lina is putting up the back ground title for the film and then on the second video diary you can tell th setting of the camera, how they are going to record faieq singing. on the third you can see faieq practicing to sing front of the camera. on the rest of them all the judges are practicing their dialogue for the film and also by practicing helped all the judges to improve on their acting and they all made sure that when they are filming they should speak louder and clearly so that everyone can hear them properly.

what went wrong...

the first time we started to film was useless the reason why i say this is because the setting and clothing was poor, so therefore we started to do it again and this time everything went to plan we managed to get a better setting. after that when i finished editing the film i tryed to burn it on to a CD so that we can do our last art in a house but there was a minor problem which was that the film didnt burn in to the CD so we had to do it again and the was aother problem which was that the laptop where we was editing didnt save our work (filming) so thereofre we had to stay after school for a bit so that we could finish doing the editinga dn burning it in to a CD for the last part of the film.

when we managed to burn it on to a CD the plan was to go and record the last part of the film in my mates house but there was a problem some of us fell ill and couldnt go round to out mates house to finish recording the film, so therefore i have managed to get hold of another camera and a CD which i burned the film so that i can do it today by my self the reason why i had to do this is because the members of the group are still ill and they got the camera and the CD, thats why i took another camera so that i can finish the task off.

so far what is happening to DESHI STAR...

we managed to do record our film but there was a little problem the setting and the clothing was not good enough so therefore we started to film it again but this time we had a better setting and better clothing. after we finished recording i then started to edit the film i have managed to finish the FIRST part of the film i then burned in on to a CD so that we can later take the last shot in a mates house where someone will be watching it as if they are watching DESHI STAR, but there was a little problem we didn't do the last part of the filming so therefore i will be recording the last part of the film in my house and hopefully i''l be finished by tomorrow.

pitch

Actors: Mufidur, Minara, Lina, etc.
Costumes: Casual clothing, maybe something "out there" (eye-catching) during some occasions.
Settings and Locations: sir john cass in a class room.
Pitch 1: Our story is like a bengali version of x factor. so bisically a guy named faieq is sitting in the waiting room listening to music and singing along with it. mufi is one of the judges asks faeiq to come into the room. lina, minara and mufi sitting at a desk as they are the judges. they ask him to introduce him self and he tells them his name and where he lives. judges ask him what does he want to do? he tells them the song his gone sing and they he begins singing to a remix begali song then he ends it with a splits.

lina begum

Pitch 2: Guy walking out his front door making his way to the pfc, a medium long shot will be used for this shot. He is walking with a big smile on his face and seems very jolly and happy as he is greeting passers by this shot will be a close up shot to his face showing his jolly and happiness. Then he is patting his belly showing he is very hungry. He glimpses at a fast food restaurant close by. He walks in and orders a very large meal. His meal is ready and he walks out. He is stopped by a few goons and dragged into the alleyway. They beat him up and leave him lying on the floor. One of them come back and take his food. The guy starts to cry "my food" and not at the fact that he got beaten up. There will be subtitles and no speech at times there may be a little tune.

The reasons why we chose both pitches is because it will be easy and very effective to show all of these things. Also the areas we have chosen will also come in handy when we are shooting the scenes. Whats more is that we will be able to use a lot of things such as props or body language to represent something the characters are doing. Not only will it be easy but it will show a clear message to make the audience understand what is going on.
