1) There are many ways in which our video uses generic conventions such as using themes and creating the right setting. The genre of our film is comedy, we decided to do a comedy movie as it appeals to a wide target audience and everyone’s always up for a comedy. The film is called deshi star. Deshi star is a movie that is based on people achieving their dreams by going through process and struggling to chase that dream they go through a journey packed with hardship, failures and success. Our film opening subverted the generic conventions of the comedy genre by being a very obvious and clear; we did this technique as that was what our film was about. Our group used props, setting, camerawork and dialogue to show the comedy through the dialogue. The props that we used were back drops, name cards, desk and chair to create a atmosphere that represents setting. The camerawork that we used was long shot and medium shot and also used close up shot to show the characters faces so that the audience gets an idea of what they are doing. The dialogues which we came up with was “that is a no form me” and also “I wish I could be in Deshi Star”. We watched a couples of movies such as dream girls, burlesque and high school musical, to help us understand the genre of the movie and this helped us to come up with the basic idea of the movie.
2) Our film represents social groups such as working class youth. We decided to do this as it is very common in the real world for working class people to end up with a office job or some even without a job. We thought we would base our film around real life so our audience can connect with the film. We feel it was a positive representation because it shows the culture of Bangladesh, where people tend to not get far in life. This would motivate them to achieve their dreams as it is possible but people give up on hope. I think this would affect the viewers in a good way by showing them a heartfelt story and encouraging them to not give up.
3) Our movie would be marketed through posters and TV adverts to reign the consumers. We would screen it on small independent cinemas as although the movie is a comedy it also appeals to a particular part of the nation because it is based on Asian culture.
4) The target audience for our movie would be both male and female. This movie’s age group is 16+ so then this could inspire them to achieve their dreams as they might like to sing and want to become a singer.
5) In our movie we have different characters, some are funny and like to have a more friendly approach to people and some are more serious and they like to get to the point straight. To represent out movie genre we had actor sing a funny song to show what kind of movie this is going to be. The film story line is about someone wanting to be a singer and have a bright future.
6) The technologies that we used during the making of our film was laptops, with in the laptop we got to use a lot of transitions and effects that would help improve our movie and make it look good. We had to upload the video to the laptop and edit it on imovie. During the process of the movie making we also got to make blog that has given us many options on what we can do and also learned how to use laptops to create movie and also blog. In the blog we got to upload movies from other sites and you tube. We got to create posts and edit the post and also we can embed the videos from other site which would help our movie making process.
7) When we did ort preliminary task we did not speak louder and clear for people to hear us properly where as on the main film we spoke clearly and loudly so that the audiences can hear and understand what we’re talking about. The lighting was not good in our preliminary task where as on the main video we make sure that the lighting was good so that people can see properly. On the main video we broke the 180 degree rule because we were thinking too much about the other things where as on the preliminary we did not have to think too much about anything so we remembered about the 180 degree rule so therefore we used the rule on the preliminary task but not the main film.
